WHO ARE WE

Afrikable is a Spanish charitable organisation, registered in the National Register of Associations under number 1/1/594088 and in the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID)'s Register of Non-Governmental Organisations under number 2033. In Kenya our association is called Afrika Able Organization and is registered with Kenya's NGO Coordination Board under number 10976.

Our team is mostly made up of volunteer professionals from different sectors.


lola-serraLola Serra Benítez
: Founding member of Afrikable. President of the Association.

Psychology graduate from the University of Malaga, Masters in Clinical Psychology and Health, and Masters in International Development Cooperation.

She has over 9 years' experience in International Cooperation, having worked in various departments of several NGOs both as a volunteer and in a paid role (Project Management, Human Resources and Fair Trade).

She and Mercedes have run the project in Lamu since its inception, doing the general management and coordination work and setting up projects.


merche-cascajeroMercedes Cascajero Vicente: Founding member of Afrikable. Vice-President of the Association.

Diploma in Social Work and Expert on Gender Equality and Conflict Mediation, with over 7 years' experience working with female victims of domestic violence and those at risk of exclusion in shelters and with Madrid's Domestic Violence Support Service (SAVD). Over 9 years' experience in Development Cooperation (Fair Trade and Social Mobilisation).

She and Lola have run the project in Lamu since its inception, doing general management and coordination work.

 

 


marisa-vicenteMª Luisa Vicente Catalán: Founding member of Afrikable. Secretary of the Association.

Volunteer for over 7 years at different NGOs dealing with Development Cooperation.

Responsible for managing the organisation's administrative work in Madrid.


 
 
 



rosario-monteroRosario Montero Ferro: Volunteer responsible for the volunteering department in Spain.

Physics Degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid. MBA from the ESDEN Business School.

Her professional career is connected with Information Technology. She has volunteered for various NGOs connected with Supporting Development and Human Rights.

Mar García Arnau: Volunteer in the Fair Trade Department.

A Graduate in Art History from the University of Madrid, she has over 7 years' experience as a Fair Trade volunteer with other NGOs in the sector.

At Afrikable she is responsible for the volunteer holidays programme, for which she coordinates the management and supports and provides information to those who are interested in volunteering.


 
 


ana-serranoAna Serrano: Volunteer in the Training Department.

PhD in Chemistry, currently working at the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemicals (CSIC).

Since 2005 she has worked with Oxfam Intermón on Social Mobilisation (training and awareness). She has also worked on planning and organising events and coordinating volunteers. She has worked as a trainer for Afrikable since its inception. She also draws up the newsletters and annual reports, and sometimes attends information and/or recruitment events. On her visits to the project in Kenya she has fitted out the work centre, held selection interviews with women, and designed fair trade products.

 


carlos-valdizanCarlos Valdizán: Volunteer in the Training Department.

A Physics Graduate with an MBA and a Postgraduate Degree in Communication Systems and Networks, he currently works as a Marketing and Communications Manager at Telefónica Spain.

A member of Telefónica's volunteer team for over 8 years, he worked in Oxfam Intermón's fair trade department for over 6 years.

At Afrikable he has worked in the training department since its inception. He also sometimes works on solidarity events to raise funds, fair trade markets, and provides general support during his visits to the project in Kenya.


 


alberto-abadAlberto Abad Adelarpe: Volunteer in the Training and Logistics Departments.

A Biological Sciences Graduate, he worked for 10 years on New Information Technologies for the financial sector.

He got a Masters in International Cooperation which enabled him to change his career direction. A Fair Trade volunteer since 2004, he currently works as an Area Sales Manager in Oxfam Intermón's Fair Trade Departmen.

He has volunteered with Afrikable since its inception, explaining the Fair Trade module within information briefings. He has researched the impact of Fair Trade in Lamu.

 


beba-espinosaBeba Espinosa Faci: A volunteer Art Director and Graphic Designer at Afrikable.

Highly Qualified in Visual Arts and Graphic Design in Advertising.

Since 2008 he has worked as a graphic designer at 3 advertising agencies and as a freelance brand and corporate image designer for various companies.

He has worked with Afrikable since its inception, developing the organisation's corporate identity plus advertising and other graphic materials (product catalogues, cards, invitations, etc.). He manages the application of Afrikable's brand and visual identity.

 


Carmen CobaledaCarmen Cobaleda: Volunteer in charge of the Partners and Donors Department, including general management of the organisation.

She has a Technical Engineering Degree in Telecommunications from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, a Master’s in Business Intelligence and Corporate Social Responsibility training. She has over 15 years of experience in marketing, operational management and business development for multinational companies in the electronics sector.

In 2011, she participated in the Volunteer Holidays program, and since then she has been supporting the organisation through the partners and donors department, management of the online fair-trade store and general management of the organisation. In turn, she coordinates the Barcelona group of volunteers. She has supported the organisation in site during her visits to the Project in Lamu.


 
 
 


rocio-garciaRocío García Rubio: Volunteer in the Fair Trade Department.

A Telecoms Engineer for UPM, and mother of 3 daughters. After graduating, she worked for three years as a volunteer in Peru. She is currently Head of Projects at an Aerospace company. Volunteer in Oxfam Intermón's Fair Trade Department since 2005.

A volunteer with Afrikable since its foundation, she mainly works on distributing the organisation's products in Spain and on preparing events, plus providing general information about the project via the website.



 


carlos-bola-nosCarlos Bolaños López de Lerma: Website volunteer

Telecoms engineer. 12 years developing distributed information systems in various companies and official bodies.

He has worked with Afrikable from the days when it was still a dream, mainly by helping out with the organisation's website. He previously worked with Oxfam Intermón, developing systems for managing educational activities and as a volunteer in fair trade shops.

 


 
 


Maria CarrioMaría Carrió Caravia: Volunteer in charge of Communications and Social Networks Department.

Maria has a degree in Media Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid and over 10 years of experience within the communication and public relations sector. She is currently the Communication Director of a Asturian multinational company.
She started working with Afrikable in October 2012 when she went to Lamu through the Volunteer Holidays program. In addition to her sole involvement in the Volunteer Holidays events, she has been in charge of communications for the NGO since February 2014.
 
 

Ruben LeonorRubén Leonor: Volunteer in charge of the Marketing Department.

Rubén has a degree in Business Administration, Publicity and Public Relations in addition to a Master's degree in Business Management. He has also centred his career path around marketing, publicity and institutional communication, in both national and international businesses from different sectors of activity.

Also, he has worked over the years with a great number of NGOs as a volunteer developing marketing, communication and fundraising strategies for third sector entities.

 

 


Maria AguilarMaría Aguilar Amat-Bouza: Volunteer in charge of the Audiovisual Department.

 
By the age of 27, she graduated in Events Organisation, Protocol and Institutional Relations. She currently works in this field in addition to undertaking a new tourism project in Kenya, where Lamu is the principal destination. 
 

As a volunteer for Afrikable, she has helped with audiovisual management and organisation for over two years thanks to her passion for the subject.

 


Ana Chaves

Ana García Chaves: Fair-trade Volunteer

 
For over 10 years, she has worked for a company within the BMW group, developing various roles and is currently is working as a Commercial Executive for the public sector. 
 
Since volunteering in Lamu through the Volunteer Holidays program in 2014, she joined the organisation as an advisor for the Fair-trade Department in Madrid, and participated in turn as a volunteer in street markets.
 

 


Lidia JimenoLidia Jimeno: Volunteer Coordinator of the Volunteer Holidays program in Lamu.

Lidia has a diploma in Work Relations from the University of Murcia. She has over 12 years of experience in human resources management within multinational companies, achieving additional skills in university and private business worlds regarding employability, work and family life conciliation...etc.
 
She participated as a volunteer for Afrikable in the Volunteer Holidays program in 2014 and is currently the coordinator of this program in Lamu.

 


Marta HerediaMarta Heredia: Voluntary Support Coordinator in Lamu.

Marta has a diploma in Social Education from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and is currently completing a degree in Criminology. She has a postgraduate degree in Mediation and Alternative Conflict Resolution. She has 10 years of experience as a social educator of juvenile justice in a juvenile and youth offending detention centre and has participated in research about sexual victimisation amongst youths and gender violence.
 
In 2014, she participated in the Volunteer Holidays program and is currently one of the project coordinators in Lamu, where she plays supporting roles in the organisation.

 


Beatriz OchoaBeatriz Ochoa: Volunteer for the Fair-trade Department In Barcelona.

Beatriz has a degree in Environmental Sciences, with a Master's in Agricultural Ecology. She works for the certification of ecological products in Catalonia.
 
After participating in Volunteer Holidays in Lamu in November 2013, she has managed the online shop and stock of fair-trade products from Barcelona.
